Free Printable Practice Checks for Kids | Learn How to Write a Check

Teaching kids about money doesn’t always have to come from a workbook.

I wanted my kids to practice something simple and practical: how to write a check.

Checks aren’t used as often as they once were, but I still think it’s useful for kids to know what one looks like and how to fill one out correctly. It also gives us an easy way to practice writing dollar amounts, spelling out amounts in words, keeping track of money, and understanding where money goes.

So I made these simple practice checks for our homeschool and decided to share them here for anyone else who might find them useful.

Each printable check has space for:

• Check number
• Pay to the Order of
• Dollar amount
• Written amount
• Memo
• Signature

I left the check number blank so kids can number the checks themselves. This also works well if you use the checks together with a check register and have your child record each transaction.

For example, you could give your child a pretend checking account balance of $500 and create a few everyday situations:

“Write a $42.75 check to the electric company.”

“Write a $18.50 check for art supplies.”

“Grandma gave you $50. Add the deposit to your register.”

Then they can write the check, record the transaction, and calculate their new balance.

That turns a simple printable into a little real-life math lesson.
